چکیده

The most frequent cause of heart attack and sudden cardiac death is the disruption of plaque build ups in the arteries. Current technologies such as intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) and optical coherence tomography (OCT) image the vessels from inside-out in order to detect plaque deposits as well as other structures. In this work we develop a novel image fusion technique that produces images with greater quality and quantity of information by establishing a correspondence between the two modalities. We employ a three step process using feature extraction, registration, and image fusion. The final results of our algorithm represent an improvement over each modality individually.

INTERVENTIONAL CARDIOLOGY AND SURGERY Evaluation of intracoronary stenting by intravascular optical coherence tomography

Background: Conventional contrast cineangiography and intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) provide a limited definition of vessel microstructure and are unable to evaluate dissection, tissue prolapse, and stent apposition on a size scale less than 100 μm. Objective: To evaluate the use of intravascular optical coherence tomography (OCT) to assess the coronary arteries in patients undergoing coronary...

Optical coherence tomography versus intravascular ultrasound to evaluate stent implantation in patients with calcific coronary artery disease

AIMS Stent underexpansion and malapposition are associated with adverse outcomes following percutaneous coronary intervention, but detection and treatment can be challenging in the presence of extensive coronary artery calcification. Frequency domain optical coherence tomography (FD-OCT) is a novel intravascular imaging technique with greater spatial resolution than intravascular ultrasound (IV...

Optical coherence tomography versus intravascular ultrasound to evaluate coronary artery disease and percutaneous coronary intervention.

OBJECTIVES We compared intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) and 2 different generations of optical coherence tomography (OCT)-time-domain OCT (TD-OCT) and frequency-domain OCT (FD-OCT)-for the assessment of coronary disease and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) using stents. BACKGROUND OCT is a promising light-based intravascular imaging modality with higher resolution than IVUS. However, t...

IVUSAngio Tool: A publicly available software for fast and accurate 3D reconstruction of coronary arteries

There is an ongoing research and clinical interest in the development of reliable and easily accessible software for the 3D reconstruction of coronary arteries. In this work, we present the architecture and validation of IVUSAngio Tool, an application which performs fast and accurate 3D reconstruction of the coronary arteries by using intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) and biplane angiography data...
